Since the late 1970s, the federal Healthy People Program has been a visible part of the United States’ method to improving population health. In each decade, a new version of Healthy People is issued, that includes up to date goals and identifying subject areas and quantifiable goals for health enchancment in the course of the succeeding ten years, with evaluation at that point of progress or lack thereof. Progress has been restricted to many objectives, leading to considerations about the effectiveness of Healthy People in shaping outcomes in the context of a decentralized and uncoordinated US health system.
